Alpha Games Update!

The color war!
Camper racing boats they made themselves!
2019 was the first year we had the Alpha Games!

We divided the camp into four teams, red, blue, green, and yellow. The campers competed in multiple challenges, including building boats out of cardboard and milk cartons, ending in an epic race on Whitefish Lake. Each session a winning team is announced and NEW this year the winning team of each session will have a trophy adorned in their team colors to honor their accomplishment. These trophies are displayed on top of the piano in the dining hall for all to see. After our 2020 alpha games, new winners for each session will be announced and that team will have the opportunity to decorate their trophy in their team color. In 2019 we had the battle of whitefish lake, but campers should be prepared for a whole new challenge in 2020!

New Alpha Game Trophies!
Campers were all assigned to one of the four color teams last summer, and this team placement will stay with the camper for the rest of their time here at Foley. That’s right! If a camper was on the blue team last year, they are on the blue team every year! This tradition will allow teams to develop team dynamics that will last a long time. This gives campers the opportunity to deck out in their team colors every year because they will know exactly what color to stock up on. Songs and cheers will be passed down through the ranks and become a part of the team as they are performed throughout the coming years. We are very excited to see how the Alpha Games develop over many summers here at Camp Foley.

The Foley Beach

It has been a dream of ours to add a beautiful stretch of beachfront to our Camp Foley paradise. This fall, our dream came true! All of the stars aligned when a nearby neighbors property went up for sale and we took the necessary steps to make it ours. And let us tell you, we are beyond excited for our campers to utilize this incredible space!

Watch our Facebook Live video to see our big reveal of the new beach. It's an amazing piece of property but don't take our word for it, watch the video and SEE for yourself!

The uses for The Foley Beach are endless and we are loving all of the suggestions we have already heard! Here's a quick compilation of some of those suggested programs:

1. Opening and/or Closing Campfires
2. Sand Castle Creations
3. Rock Skipping and Agate Hunting
4. Star Gazing
5. Swimming, of course! Complete with inflatables, canoes, and other general water toys!

Do you have an idea of how we could use this new property?! Email Jordan and let us know!

In the meantime, check out some photos of the new Foley Beach below:

Throwback Thursday: 2005

The youngest campers at Camp Foley in 2013 will be eight years old. That means, they were born in 2005, which happens to be the year we’re going back to for this Throwback Thursday.

First summer of Paintball at camp in 2005!!
Paintball wasn’t a Foley activity until 2005. Can you guess how the activity came to camp? That’s right, camper request! Those surveys you fill out at the end of the summer really do matter, as camp often makes changes to programming and facilities based off of what our campers say. Look for new paintball markers in 2013!

Hammocks at Camp Foley!
Summer 2005 was also the first year that hammocks made an appearance at Camp Foley! According to an old newsletter, “In order to ensure maximum comfort while you socialize, we will be adding a couple of areas of hammocks!” We have seen many campers utilize the space for some quiet time or to chat with cabinmates and other friends.

Sports Banquet
Prior to summer 2005 some big things were happening to some of the most frequented buildings at camp… the Washos! The clean, bright Washos you have come to know and love weren’t always so clean and bright. The tile floors, blue stalls and bright lighting weren’t there until 2005. And do you know who brought about the change? The campers! After many camper requests, the Washos were updated. So you may need to send some ‘thank you’ vibes to the campers on the early-mid 2000s.

Caribbean Banquet
Some of the programming in 2005 included: Sports Heroes & Caribbean Island banquets. Happenin’ Halloween, Casino Night and CampJam were some special even programs planned. We also did Foley Records, Pajama Rama Sunday (think Lipsyncs mixed with a talent show... all over breakfast!), Wet 'N' Wild and Giant Pac Man.Camp Foley also brought in a HOT TUB in 2005 for a special Spa Night for the girls and Sport 'N' Soak for the boys. It was quite memorable!

Do any of you remember 2005? Do you think camp should bring back any of the special programs from 2005? Let us know!
